Innovation and Sustainability: Ceiba at the 29th MEM Energy Congress
On November 6, 7, and 8, 2024, we participated in the 29th MEM Energy Congress, held at the Hilton Hotel in Cartagena de Indias. This congress, renowned for its significance in the energy sector, brought together the most influential companies nationally and internationally and featured the participation of our Account Managers, Froilan Mauricio Ruiz Echevarría and Luisa Fernanda Acevedo Vélez.
The event focused on discussing the challenges and opportunities faced by the energy sector in Colombia, addressing central themes such as mobility, energy communities, modernization of the Wholesale Energy Market (MEM), smart cities, and artificial intelligence. These areas were presented as crucial drivers of change needed to meet the growing energy demand and the challenges of climate change. The urgent need to update regulations and strengthen collaboration between the public and private sectors was also emphasized.
One of the most notable topics was the transition to renewable energy sources and the potential incorporation of nuclear energy into Colombia’s energy matrix. Experts presented analyses and proposals highlighting the importance of flexibility and investment in new technologies to ensure a sustainable and resilient energy future. This transition process was complex, requiring strong collaboration among all stakeholders.
The diversity of participants, including regulators, electric and natural gas utility companies, environmental authorities, trade associations, the financial sector, investors, consultants, government organizations, and academia, enriched the discussions and facilitated an exchange of experiences that will contribute to strengthening the country’s electric sector.
For Ceiba, the congress strengthened our connections in the sector and provided us with innovative ideas and perspectives to continue developing energy solutions that positively impact Colombia. We are firmly committed to integrating these valuable experiences into our daily work, seizing every opportunity to innovate and collaborate toward building a more sustainable energy future.
